1996
El grupo se forma en Glasgow (Escocia) en 1996, cuando Tracyanne, John y Gavin se reunían en el sótano de la casa de los padres de Gavin para escribir canciones y ensayar. Al principio les acompañaba a la guitarra David Skirving.

1998
En Marzo se publica el single de debut del grupo, “Park ride”, en el sello escocés Andmoresound. “Park ride” aparece únicamente en vinilo, y rápidamente se descataloga. A finales de año llega “Your sound”, segundo single del grupo. Disponible esta vez en vinilo y CD, y de nuevo publicado por el sello Andmoresound. En estos dos primeros singles les acompaña a la batería Richard Colburn (batería de BELLE & SEBASTIAN), y ambos singles son recopilados en un mini-álbum en formato CD para la compañía japonesa Quattro bajo el título de “Rare UK Bird”. Durante este tiempo, el grupo se dedica a tocar en directo en diferentes salas de su ciudad, actuando por ejemplo junto a SNOW PATROL en The Maryhill Community Central Halls.

David Skirving deja la banda para formar su propio grupo, CALIFORNIA SNOW STORY, y entran a cambio Kenny (actual guitarra del grupo) y Lindsay a los teclados.

El 3 de Marzo de 1999 actúan en Hyndland Church Hall junto a ASTRID y STEVIE JACKSON, y también comparten cartel ese mismo año con AC ACOUSTICS en Glasgow.

2000
Lee entra en el grupo para tocar la batería, sustituyendo a Richard Colburn, y sigue siendo el actual batería de CAMERA OBSCURA.

Entran a grabar su primer álbum, “Biggest bluest Hi-Fi”, en los estudios CaVa de Glasgow. El ingeniero de sonido fue Geoff Allan, que también ha trabajado con otros ilustres escoceses como MOGWAI, TEENAGE FANCLUB, THE DELGADOS, ARAB STRAP, BELLE & SEBASTIAN.

2001
El 25 de Junio se publica el single “Eighties fan”, que delimitaba a la perfección las coordenadas sonoras del grupo: una deliciosa voz femenina, cercana en timbre y calidez a las primeras grabaciones de Tracey Thorn (EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL), Astrud Gilberto o Harriet Wheeler (THE SUNDAYS), con una personalidad tan fuerte como la de Dusty Springfield, Nancy Sinatra o Bobbie Gentry; guitarras acústicas y ambientes relajados; un impresionante arreglo de cuerda; y una melodía sencillamente inolvidable. Para rematar la jugada, el single venía firmado por Stuart Murdoch, vecino ilustre de Glasgow y líder de los imprescindibles BELLE & SEBASTIAN. Fue Single de la Semana en la revista inglesa “Record Collector”, y John Peel y Steve Lamacq (prestigiosos DJ’s de la BBC británica) la pincharon hasta la saciedad.

Presentan el single en directo en el Westport Bar de Dundee, Hyndland Church en Glasgow y The Spitz en Londres, compartiendo cartel en este último con TOMPAULIN.

El 14 de Agosto graban su primera sesión de radio para John Peel en Radio 1. Las canciones que tocan son “Anti Western” y “Sun on his back”, más dos canciones nuevas: “Number one son” y “Before you cry”, que más tarde grabarían para su segundo álbum.

Poco después llegó el álbum de debut de CAMERA OBSCURA. “Biggest bluest Hi-Fi” sale a la venta el 12 de Noviembre en la compañía Andmoresound. El álbum es una soberbia colección de canciones de pop acústico, sencillas pero emocionantes. Stuart Murdoch vuelve a colaborar: además de producir “Eighties fan”, se encarga de los sutiles pero majestuosos arreglos orquestales que de vez en cuando hacen acto de aparición. Stuart también es el director del excelente video de “Eighties fan”.

El disco es muy bien acogido en los medios: consigue ser Álbum de la Semana en la conocida emisora de radio XFM y en la famosa tienda Rough Trade. “Biggest bluest Hi-Fi”, por su parte, se convierte en uno de los álbumes más vendidos de la distribuidora Prime.

Actúan con HER SPACE HOLIDAY el 15 de Noviembre en Brighton.

El 20 de Diciembre son invitados a actuar en la fiesta de Navidad de John Peel, “Christmas Carol Special”, junto a MELYS, LIANNE HALL y GORKY’S ZYGOTIC MYNCI.

“Eighties Fan” queda situada en el número 8 en la lista de los 50 favoritos de John Peel. Su primer álbum se publica también en Japón en el sello Quattro, y en Australia en el sello Gifted Records. En España es Elefant Records la compañía encargada de publicar el brillante álbum de debut de CAMERA OBSCURA. La edición Elefant del álbum cuenta además con dos excelentes temas extra (“Shine like a new pin” y “Let’s go bowling”), que aparecieron originalmente como caras B en el CD-single de “Eighties fan”, y que completan esta fantástica tarjeta de presentación de CAMERA OBSCURA para el público español.

Lindsay deja el grupo y es sustituido por Carey (actual teclista del grupo).

2002
Graban una sesión para el programa Air de Radio Scotland el 10 de Enero.

El 7 de Marzo realizan otra sesión para John Peel, en la que graban cinco canciones.

Participan en el festival “Pow to the people” en Londres junto a BUTTERFLIES OF LOVE y CANE 141.

El 17 de Mayo el grupo realiza su primera actuación en España en el Festival Primavera Sound (Barcelona), en el que tocan junto a grupos como PULP, TINDERSTICKS, SPIRITUALIZED, APHEX TWIN, NOSOTRÄSH, BIS, LE TIGRE... Aparecen en revistas como Rockdelux, Mondosonoro, Neo2, Alter Ego... y conceden entrevistas en Catalunya Cultura, COM Ràdio, Disco Grande (Radio 3)... El videoclip de “Eighties fan” es muy bien acogido en muchos de los programas musicales de televisión (MTV, SOL Música, 40TV, TV3, Telecinco, Antena3, Telemadrid, laOtra y un largo etc...).

“Anti-Western” es seleccionada Canción Internacional del Mes de Abril en el programa de Radio 3 “Disco Grande”.

El programa de Cadena 40 “Viaje a los Sueños Polares” escoge “Eighties fan” como mejor single internacional del año 2001, y “Biggest bluest Hi-Fi” como segundo mejor álbum internacional de 2001.

El 28 de Septiembre actúan para celebrar el décimo aniversario del espléndido fanzine americano Chickfactor en el festival “Black and White Ball”, en el Bush Halls de Londres, junto a FUTURE BIBLE HEROES, PIPAS, THE MONTGOLFIER BROTHERS y WOULD-BE-GOODS.

En Noviembre regresan a España para realizar una gira que les llevará por algunas de las ciudades y salas más importantes de nuestro país, participando en el Festival TANNED TIN de Santander, el Ciclo Sonido Emergente de la Universidad de Pamplona, la Universidad de Cádiz, el Playa Club de La Coruña, la sala El Sol de Madrid, la sala Camelot de Santa Pola, la sala Roxy de Valencia y la FNAC de Madrid. Más de 5000 fans vieron a CAMERA OBSCURA durante su gira española; la encantadora voz de Tracyanne Campbell y su gusto por el pop acústico y sencillo cautivaron al público desde el primer momento. Un éxito que venía avalado en cierta medida por la estupenda repercusión que ha tenido su álbum de debut “Biggest bluest Hi-Fi” en nuestro país. Durante su gira española, el grupo aprovechó para hacer entrevistas en programas de radio, prensa, revistas especializadas, sesiones de radio (Radio 3, Telemadrid Radio, 40 Principales...) y grabar los conciertos para Radio 3/TVE2 (11-11-02) y el Básico de laOtra de Telemadrid (12-11-02).

Comienzan la grabación de su segundo álbum, de nuevo en los estudios CaVa de Glasgow. Vuelven a trabajar con el reputado Geoff Allan, como ingeniero de sonido y coproduciendo el disco junto al propio grupo. El disco se graba en diferentes sesiones entre los meses de Abril y Diciembre.

2003
El 14 de Febrero actúan junto a THE LADYBUG TRANSISTOR en Hyndland Church Hall en Glasgow.

Ese mismo mes de Febrero, “Underachievers please try harder” es masterizado por Frank Arkwright en los estudios Town House de Londres; Frank ha trabajado con BELLE & SEBASTIAN, JOHNNY MARR AND THE HEALERS, GOMEZ o ARAB STRAP.

El 25 de Julio se pone a la venta “Teenager”, single de adelanto de su segundo álbum. El single incluye “Teenager” como tema principal, y dos canciones inéditas y exclusivas: “I don’t want to see you”, grabada durante las mismas sesiones del álbum, y “Footloose and fancy free”, pop de buhardilla grabado en Abril en la habitación de Kenny (guitarra del grupo). Durante el mes de Julio se graba el videoclip de “Teenager” en Glasgow. La veraniega portada del single viene firmada por Luis Calvo (Elefant Design).

“Teenager” es seleccionada Canción Internacional del Mes de Junio en el programa de Radio 3 “Disco Grande”.

En Agosto, el grupo regresa a España para presentar su nuevo disco en el festival de Benicàssim (encabezan el cartel artistas como BLUR, BECK, MOBY, SUEDE...), donde sus fans pueden adquirir las primeras copias de “Underachievers Please Try Harder”, un exquisito manual que resume las claves del mejor pop y que Elefant se complace en publicar ya en exclusiva para todo el mundo.

El 25 de Agosto se publica por fin este segundo álbum, que recoge las virtudes de su exitoso primer álbum y nos anuncia una nueva etapa llena de grandes logros y momentos inolvidables. A base de buen gusto y trabajo constante, CAMERA OBSCURA han alcanzado un envidiable estatus de culto que cada vez está más cerca de convertirse en masivo. Las canciones de CAMERA OBSCURA van ganando al oyente según se van sucediendo las escuchas: nos encontramos ante un ejemplo de pop clásico pero con ese “algo especial” tan difícil de definir: ¿será la voz de Tracyanne? ¿Serán las influencias variadas y siempre exquisitas que van desde los grupos vocales de chicas de los 50 al soft pop de los 60 o el country-pop? ¿Será que canciones como “Teenager” son sencillamente perfectas? CAMERA OBSCURA saben cómo llegar al corazón de la gente con melodías dulces e inteligentemente solapadas con arreglos delicados y letras agridulces. Una maravillosa muestra de madurez, sabiduría y trabajada bisutería pop. El diseño de la portada es de Divine INC, y las fotos que aparecen en el disco vienen firmadas por Stuart Murdoch.
Se publica una edición limitada del álbum en vinilo.

En Septiembre vuelven a España para participar en el Lemon Pop Festival (Murcia), junto a ENTRE RÍOS y LA BUENA VIDA, y en las fiestas de presentación del recopilatorio de elefant “Modapop”: en Madrid, en la sala Clamores, y en el Mond Club de Barcelona junto a NIZA, LA CASA AZUL, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE y ENTRE RÍOS. A mediados de Septiembre comienzan la gira de presentación del álbum por Inglaterra, y realizan una nueva sesión para John Peel.

“Suspended From Class” es elegida como una de las mejores canciones internacionales de 2003, según la redacción de la revista Rockdelux, en las listas publicadas en el número de Enero de 2004.

2004
En Enero se publica “Underachievers Please Try Harder” en Estados Unidos, a través del exquisito sello norteamericano Merge Records (LAMBCHOP, THE CLIENTELE, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS). El disco, que incluye como bonus tracks las canciones “I don’t want to see you” y Footloose and fancy-free” (caras B del single “Teenager”; en la edición de Merge se incluye también el videoclip de “Teenager”) se coloca en lo más alto de las listas indies a la segunda semana de su publicación. En verano, el grupo realiza una extensa gira por por Estados Unidos para presentarlo. La gira coincide con la edición del disco conmemorativo del 15 aniversario del sello (“Old enough 2 know better”), y CAMERA OBSCURA actúan en el concierto de presentación del recopilatorio.

En Marzo viajan de nuevo a España, para participar en la segunda edición del festival “Soft Pop Tour”, junto a TREMBLING BLUE STARS, THE CLIENTELE y LA CASA AZUL.

En Mayo se publica “Keep It Clean”, segundo single extraído del segundo álbum. Este CD-single incluye "Keep It Clean" como tema principal, y otras dos canciones exclusivas: "San Francisco Song" y "Amigo Mío", la primera canción del grupo en castellano, compuesta y cantada por Kenny McKeeve, guitarrista del grupo. También se incluye una pista con el videoclip de "Teenager", dirigido por Blair Young, habitual en la realización de videos de FRANZ FERDINAND, SONS & DAUGHTERS, BELLE & SEBASTIAN o MY LATEST NOVEL, y que también participó en la elaboración del primer clip de CAMERA OBSCURA, "Eighties Fan".

El disco sigue su triunfante trayecto internacional con licencias en numerosos países: Konkurrent lo edita en Bélgica, Holanda y Luxemburgo, y Pop Frenzy hace lo propio en Australia, añadiendo como bonus tracks los temas “SF song” y “Amigo mío” (caras B de “Keep it clean”), además del video de “Teenager”. Por lo que respecta a Asia, un continente muy interesado en la música del grupo, la compañía Ales Music publica el disco en Corea del Sur (con los mismos añadidos que el disco de Merge); Avant Garden Records lo edita en Taiwan con una portada diferente; e Imperial Records se encarga de su publicación en Japón, añadiendo como bonus tracks las cuatro caras B de los dos singles, “Teenager” y “Keep it clean”.

Para finalizar el año con buen pie, incluyen un tema acústico en el recopilatorio “Sunsets and Silhouettes”, editado por el sello norteamericano Planting Seeds Records, donde comparten espacio con FREEHEAT y SISTER VANILLA, los respectivos nuevos grupos de los hermanos Reid (ex JESUS AND MARY CHAIN).

2005
En Marzo se publica “I Love my Jean”, un nuevo single que contiene tres canciones previamente inéditas. Dos de ellas, basadas en poemas del poeta nacional escocés Robert Burns, que vivió en el s. XVIII y es desde entonces un mito de la cultura escocesa. Tracyanne pone música a dos de sus poemas, haciendo que el resultado parezca tan suyo como el otro tema propio incluido en este single excepcional. A raíz de la edición de este single, CAMERA OBSCURA vuelven a España en visita relámpago para actuar el 19 de Marzo en el South Pop Festival, un encuentro musical de dos días en Sevilla, donde comparten escenario con artistas de la talla de LALI PUNA y THE MONTGOLFIER BROTHERS, entre otros. Este es además su primer concierto en España sin John, miembro fundador del grupo que ha abandonado recientemente la formación.
Mientras tanto, Blair Young prepara un nuevo videoclip, en esta ocasión de “I Love my Jean”, tema titular del nuevo single, y el grupo ultima los detalles de sus nuevas canciones para lo que será ya su tercer disco, cuya grabación está prevista para el verano y que será editado por Elefant antes de finales de año.

En las listas independientes británicas del 27 de marzo, “I love my Jean” aparece en el número 28 en su primera semana a la venta, compartiendo honores con grupos como MERCURY REV, BRIGHT EYES o DIZZEE RASCAL.

El 25 de marzo graban una versión acústica de “I love my Jean” para el programa de Fred Macaulay en BBC Scotland, y el 28 del mismo mes graban otras tres canciones en directo para el programa “Air”, de la misma emisora.

En Abril, el grupo realiza una corta gira por Suecia, promocionando los temas de su último single.

En Septiembre entran en el estudio en Estocolmo para grabar la continuación al exitoso “Underachievers please try harder”.
Al mismo tiempo, el grupo de Glasgow acaba de estrenar su nueva y completísima web: pinchando en www.camera-obscura.net puedes conocer más sobre ellos (sus links recomendados, las recetas de Nigel, el consultorio de Kenny...), ver fotos de sus giras, participar en su foro, e incluso podrás entrar a leer su blog , donde seguro que irán contando las vicisitudes de la grabación de este tercer álbum, cuya salida está prevista para 2006.
Esta es la primera vez que el grupo graba bajo la supervisión de un productor, si exceptuamos el trabajo de Stuart Murdoch en el single “Eighties fan”: el escogido en esta ocasión ha sido el sueco Jari Haapalainen, cuyo currículum incluye producciones para Ed Harcourt y, sobre todo, para el grupo sueco THE CONCRETES (con quienes también actúa como músico de apoyo; de hecho, Haapalainen mantiene un proyecto paralelo, de nombre HEIKKI, junto con Maria Eriksson de THE CONCRETES).

2006
La canción "Suspended from class" es incluida en la banda sonora de "Imagine me & you", una comedia ingeniosa, refrescante y poco convencional producida por la BBC. La película, protagonizada por la actriz Piper Perabo en el papel de la perfecta mujer británica moderna, trata de las mil formas que puede tomar el amor y sus constantes sorpresas: el día de su matrimonio, la novia descubre el amor a primera vista ...y se enamora de la florista.
El compañero de reparto masculino de Perabo es Matthew Goode, actor conocido en España por haber compartido cartel con Antonio Resines, Ángela Molina, Verónica Sánchez y Guillermo Toledo en "Al sur de Granada" -la película sobre Gerald Brennan que dirigió Fernando Colomo-, pero más conocido aún a nivel internacional por su reciente protagonismo en "Match Point", la última película de Woody Allen, junto a Scarlet Johansson y Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.
La inclusión de CAMERA OBSCURA en esta película tiene mayor interés aún si tenemos en cuenta el currículum de la responsable musical de "Imagine me & you": Liz Gallacher ha ganado un Brit Award por su trabajo en "The Full Monty", y fue nominada para los NME Awards por su trabajo en "24 Hour Party People", además de haber trabajado con directores como Atom Egoyan, Michael Winterbottom o Istvan Szabo.
El buen gusto musical de esta película (que toma su nombre de las primeras líneas de "Happy together", la preciosa canción de THE TURTLES que también recuperó en su día Wong Kar-Wai), se confirma con la noticia de que su director y guionista (Ol Parker, quien también ha escrito guiones para Jonathan Demme) acaba de escribir el guión de "Crosstown Traffic", el inminente biopic sobre Jimi Hendrix.

En marzo, el grupo hace una nueva visita a los Estados Unidos para tres conciertos. El más importante es sin duda su participación en el prestigioso festival South By Southwest (SXSW) de Austin, Texas, uno de los encuentros más importantes e influyentes de la industria musical para el mercado norteamericano. De allí salen cada año los grupos y artistas que más van a destacar en la escena independiente de ese país.
Aparte del concierto en SXSW, CAMERA OBSCURA actúan en marzo en la mítica sala Knitting Factory de Nueva York, y también en Chapel Hill, Carolina del Norte; la ciudad donde está basado su sello en Norteamérica, Merge Records. En ambos conciertos les telonea Maria Taylor.

En mayo sale a la venta "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken", primer single extraído del tercer disco del grupo. "Let's get out of this country" -título del nuevo disco- fue grabado en diversos estudios de Suecia (estudios donde han grabado y mezclado desde THE MAGIC NUMBERS hasta Neneh Cherry o Per Gessle de ROXETTE), y producido por Jari Haapalainen, productor de maravillas como THE CONCRETES o Ed Harcourt. Los arreglos de cuerda los proporciona Bjorn Yttling, miembro del exitoso trío Peter, Bjorn & John (por cierto, la que canta en su principal éxito es Victoria de THE CONCRETES, así que todo queda en casa). En este disco, que sale por fin a la venta en junio, CAMERA OBSCURA apuesta por el pop clásico y atemporal teñido de country y de soul, con diez canciones impecables donde la preciosa voz de Tracyanne Campbell se deja envolver por preciosos arreglos de cuerda (para los cuales contaron con músicos que han acompañado en directo a Brian Wilson o a Arthur Lee & LOVE).

El videoclip que ilustra este primer single es una delicia de colorido, fantasía y dinamismo pop. Su director es Domingo González, habitual en los videos de LA CASA AZUL, director del celebrado cortometraje "Las Superamigas contra el Profesor Vinilo" (puedes visitarlo en la web www.lassuperamigas.com) y también -agárrate fuerte- director del video sensación en internet en los últimos meses de 2006: el de LOS HAPPINESS y su desternillante "Amo a Laura". Para este video de CAMERA OBSCURA, Domingo González hace un homenaje a las coreografías clásicas del cine, que además mantiene de fondo un bombardeo de imágenes de estética pop y retrofuturista.

A mediados de año, en poco más de seis meses de vida, la página de CAMERA OBSCURA en la web Myspace.com supera con holgura las 90.000 visitas y las más de 350.000 escuchas de las canciones que tienen colgadas en dicha página; con especial mención para su single "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken", que en un par de semanas supera las 145.000 escuchas.
Como prueba de este éxito entre los internautas, CAMERA OBSCURA fueron seleccionados en Junio para aparecer como grupo recomendado en la página de inicio de Myspace.com (todo un logro, teniendo en cuenta que hay varios millones de páginas de artistas en Myspace - ¡se dice pronto!).

En mayo y junio, el grupo se embarca en una exitosa gira de once fechas por Gran Bretaña, y durante todo el mes de julio cruzan los Estados Unidos y Canadá de costa a costa, en una nueva gira americana de veintidós fechas, que da comienzo el 4 de Julio en Toronto para acabar en Cincinatti el 30 de Julio.

La revista musical inglesa Q Magazine llega en el número de agosto a su vigésimo aniversario, y entre las celebraciones previstas está la edición de un CD recopilatorio en homenaje a la década que vio nacer a esta influyente publicación. El CD, que sale a la venta conjuntamente con la revista el 1 de Julio, contiene quince versiones de temas clásicos de la década de los 80 a cargo de algunos de los más interesantes artistas del momento: THE FUTUREHEADS versioneando a David Bowie, PLACEBO a Kate Bush, Katie Melua a THE CURE, ORSON a HALL&OATES... Entre todos estos nombres, y demostrando el lugar que está alcanzando el grupo en la cumbre del pop internacional, CAMERA OBSCURA incluyen su versión del "Modern girl" de Sheena Easton, grabada especialmente para la ocasión.

En Septiembre sale a la venta "Let's get out of this country", segundo single extraído del álbum del mismo título, y aprovechando la ocasión, CAMERA OBSCURA nos obsequian con un nuevo y espléndido videoclip.
Para ilustrar esta preciosa melodía vestida de violines y melancolía, Blair Young (en su mejor trabajo hasta la fecha, y eso que hablamos del director de todos los videos de CAMERA OBSCURA, y también de otros ilustres paisanos como TEENAGE FANCLUB, SONS AND DAUGHTERS o BELLE AND SEBASTIAN), filma al grupo ensayando perezosamente en el salón de su casa, poniendo imágenes al sentimiento de aburrimiento y necesidad de escapar de la rutina que comunica la letra de la canción. Un video evocador que capta perfectamente el ambiente de la canción, amplificando aún más su encanto y su impacto emocional.

El 16 de septiembre el grupo toca en la undécima edición del festival Lemon Pop de Murcia, donde comparte cartel con grupos como THE REZILLOS, TENDER FOREVER, SCARLET'S WELL o THE FRANK AND WALTERS. El concierto es retransmitido en directo a través de Radio 3.

Está demostrado: la música de CAMERA OBSCURA es perfecta para acompañar las imágenes de las mejores series de televisión. En el cuarto episodio de la tercera temporada de "Anatomía de Grey", los dos primeros minutos que abren el nuevo capítulo los protagoniza la música de CAMERA OBSCURA con su canción "If looks could kill".
Al final del quinto episodio de la serie de la NBC "Friday Night Lights" (sobre la vida de un entrenador de fútbol americano en un instituto de un pueblo de Texas) suena otra canción de CAMERA OBSCURA: "Let's get out of this country", ¡casi entera!
Y también "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken" tiene sus minutos televisivos en la secuencia de apertura de uno de los capítulos de la serie de Channel 4 "Hollyoaks": una serie enfocada a la gente joven, que lleva más de doce años en antena en Gran Bretaña, llegando a una media de tres millones de espectadores por semana.

Desde que salió a la venta "Let's get out of this country", el grupo no deja de girar por el mundo presentando sus canciones en directo: conciertos por toda Gran Bretaña, Norteamérica de cabo a rabo, Suecia, Alemania, Holanda... Y finalmente España, con catorce conciertos multitudinarios donde llenan todas las salas entre el 16 de noviembre y el 16 de diciembre.
En Madrid venden todas las entradas de los dos días en la sala El Sol días antes de los conciertos. El concierto de Barcelona se enmarca en la octava edición del festival "Los Reyes son Rockeros", un festival en el que el público no paga dinero por entrar; su aportación es un juguete nuevo con el objetivo de desarrollar una campaña de recogida de juguetes desde un punto de vista lúdico, comprometido y singular, en el que las familias con pocos recursos de la ciudad tengan también sus regalos navideños. El público del concierto, a cambio, recibe un cartel de buena música en vivo. ¡No es un mal trato!

En este año de éxitos, el sello indie de Singapur Fruit Records celebra la salida allí de "Let's get out of this country" con una fiesta por todo lo alto en BarbaaBlackChic, un edificio de dos plantas en el distrito de Little India (en la ciudad de Singapur) con pista de baile en la planta baja y cafetería en el piso superior. Allí las nuevas canciones de CAMERA OBSCURA sonaron y fueron bailadas en una noche donde también se proyectaron videoclips de Elefant y sonó música de otros grupos del sello, además de indiepop, northern soul, 60's bubblegum o pop escandinavo de sellos amigos como Labrador.

Uno de los últimos países en unirse a la fiebre internacional por el grupo de Glasgow es México: el 4 de diciembre se edita "Let's get out of this country" en el país del tequila, editado a través del muy recomendable sello Noiselab (responsable también de editar en ese país a ARCADE FIRE, BRAKES, BLOC PARTY, CANSEI DE SER SEXY, CAT POWER, MORRISSEY, THE LIBERTINES o VERACRUZ).
Gracias a esta edición local de su tercer disco en tierras mexicanas, CAMERA OBSCURA aprovechan su segunda gira por Norteamérica -que comienza a finales de enero de 2007- para poner un nuevo sello en sus pasaportes y ofrecer su primera actuación en México: el 10 de febrero en la sala Poliforum Siqueiros de Ciudad de México.

Para finalizar el año de manera inmejorable, el video de "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken" aparece en la lista de los mejores videos del año en el programa "Subterranean" de MTV2, el sucesor y portador del legado del histórico programa "120 Minutes". Los mejores videoclips y los mejores artistas del año se acumulan en su lista, y uno de ellos es, por supuesto, CAMERA OBSCURA.

2007
"If looks could kill" es la tercera canción escogida como single de "Let's get out of this country". Sale a la venta el 22 de enero, coincidiendo con una nueva gira del grupo por los Estados Unidos.
Junto a la canción titular, en el formato CD-single se incluyen dos nuevos temas previamente inéditos: "Hands up baby" (un dueto entre Kenny McKeeve y Tracyanne Campbell, grabado durante las mismas sesiones del álbum en Suecia) y el recentísimo "Alaska", tema nuevo grabado el último fin de semana de Octubre de 2006 por Paul Savage (THE DELGADOS) en los estudios Chem 19 de Glasgow (donde han grabado entre otros Vashti Bunyan, TRASH CAN SINATRAS, Scout Niblett o TEENAGE FANCLUB).
Como es ya habitual, la edición en vinilo de siete pulgadas es de tirada limitada e incluye, además de "If looks could kill", una cara B exclusiva y previamente inédita: una versión del eterno clásico de Phil Spector y las PARIS SISTERS, "I love how you love me".

La edición del nuevo single de CAMERA OBSCURA coincide con una nueva y extensa gira del grupo por los Estados Unidos, que comienza el 18 de enero y finaliza el 18 de febrero. A continuación, el sexteto se desplazará a Australia para ofrecer siete fechas en las Antípodas, y de allí continuará su imparable periplo internacional por tierras asiáticas.
Su retorno a Europa está previsto para la primavera de 2007, con nueva gira por Gran Bretaña en marzo y más conciertos en España en el mes de abril.

En el verano de 2006, CAMERA OBSCURA ya viajaron a lo largo y ancho de los Estados Unidos, presentando las canciones de "Let's get out of this country". Durante la veintena de conciertos que ofrecieron entonces estuvieron acompañados por Blair Young, a quien podemos considerar ya como el biógrafo visual de CAMERA OBSCURA (ha grabado la mayoría de sus videos, además de trabajar con canciones de TEENAGE FANCLUB, SONS AND DAUGHTERS o BELLE AND SEBASTIAN). Aprovechando el colorido y los recursos que ofrece todo un mes recorriendo estados americanos, Young realizó un videoclip de frenético montaje aprovechando el ritmo trotón y bailable de la canción "If looks could kill" (el nuevo single extraído de un disco que no para de descubrir nuevas gemas melódicas). La temática del video es simple, pero muy efectiva: a base de innumerables imágenes de hoteles, moteles, furgonetas, carreteras, aparcamientos, aeropuertos, salas de conciertos e imágenes del grupo en directo, en tres minutos nos hacemos una idea bastante clara del torbellino de sensaciones que supone una gira tan extensa.

En las primeras semanas de 2007 empiezan a llegar las listas de lo mejor del año anterior, donde el disco de CAMERA OBSCURA ocupa una posición preeminente. También en las selecciones de otros músicos a los que todos admiramos: Richard Hawley escoge, desde las páginas de la revista Mojo, "Let's get out of this country" como uno de los mejores discos de 2006. En el diario The Independent podemos leer a Brett Anderson (cantante de SUEDE y THE TEARS) asegurando que el de los escoceses es "probablemente mi disco favorito de este año. Canciones hermosamente construidas que recuerdan a los mejores momentos de THE CONCRETES".
En otro prestigioso diario británico, The Daily Telegraph, la canción que da título a "Let's get out of this country" es uno de los cinco mejores singles del año (junto a mega éxitos mundiales como "Crazy" de GNARLS BARKLEY o "Hips don't lie" de Shakira), y en sus mismas páginas podemos leer a Stuart Murdoch (BELLE AND SEBASTIAN) diciendo que el disco de CAMERA OBSCURA es "el mejor disco actual que he escuchado en mucho tiempo".

Al mismo tiempo, "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken" aparece en la lista de "100 grandes canciones por descubrir" de la revista británica Q.

En España, "Let's get out of this country" ocupa lugares destacados en las listas de todas las principales revistas especializadas (Rockdelux, Go Mag), y en el programa "Disco Grande" de Radio 3 el disco es escogido como el mejor del año para los oyentes, y "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken" ocupa el lugar de la segunda mejor canción del año.
